400+ new coronavirus cases in Imperial County

Number of residents tested nears 20,000

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Imperial County health officials confirmed another 433 new cases of coronavirus in the Valley Saturday, pushing the number of positive patients to more than 4,000.

The Imperial County Public Health Department (ICPHD) reported no new deaths from the virus.

New numbers show continued progress with testing. More than 19,000 people have now been screened for the illness. Statistics also show nearly 3,000 Valley residents have recovered.

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) says Imperial County now averages 227 new cases of coronavirus a day. Its statistics show the number of infections are now doubling every 12 days.

California currently has nearly 148,000 cases of coronavirus. The illness has been blamed for nearly 5,000 deaths, including 43 in Imperial County.
