Imperial County sees highest one-day spike in coronavirus cases
Health officials confirm 80+ new cases and one additional death
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Imperial County saw it's highest one-day spike in coronavirus cases Wednesday. Health officials confirm the Valley has 83 new cases, and one more death.
The spike comes just one day after El Centro Regional Medical Center (ECRMC) placed itself on "diversion status" due to coronavirus cases. Diversion status means a hospital has no beds available for admitted patients. ECRMC removed itself from that status this morning.
On a positive note, the Imperial County Public Health Department (ICPHD) says it has now tested nearly 7,000 Valley residents. Health officials have long predicted the number of coronavirus cases would rise as testing expanded. More good news - more than 500 Imperial County residents have now recovered from the illness.
