Desert Southwest Comeback: Yuma CrossFit gym begins reopening under new safety protocols
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - On Wednesday, all gyms and fitness classes can reopen, with physical distancing and enhanced sanitation required under CDC guidelines.
Back when gyms were ordered to shut down, they were holding online video classes as an alternative . Now that gyms can re-open, the excitement is building especially here at CrossFit Hidden Valley.
As most facilities start to re-open, they are adding additional health and safety measures like reducing the capacity of each class and separating people accordingly, depending on the size of the space.
Steven Garnica is the owner of CrossFit Hidden Valley. He tells us - members apply hand sanitizer and grab other cleaning materials before heading into class.
"There is a hand sanitizing station as soon as you walk in and leave. Both exits also have a bucket and they’re like their keys cell phone and what not and in the book it will also be a disinfectant spray along with a towel so they can use to wipe down there equipment before and after each use. And wipe down their station as well," Garnica said.
He adds his staff is in constant communication on implementing these new safety measures.
CrossFit Hidden Valley is set to open back up on Saturday, May 16th.
Coming up tonight on 13 On Your Side at 10pm: Hear from a member of this gym on why it is so important to re-open these types of facilities.
