New campaign push to vaccinate community

MGN

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - There’s a new push to vaccinate more people in yuma and it's aimed at helping protect our community against the virus. Between 800 to a thousand people come thru the doors of the yuma civic center every day.

Making 30,000 doses in 30 days a realistic goal.

“This campaign is extremely important because 30,000 for the Yuma community is a large number, it's a good percentage of our community. And so that'll put us dramatically ahead of where we're at today.”

Yuma regional medical center announced the launch of this new campaign during a press conference this morning.

And Mayor Doug Nicholls, who is already vaccinated, is on board.

“I think we've understood how normal life used to be. So to be able to return to some sort of semblance, I think we're all dying for that opportunity. And so let's look to see how we can as individual community members support that return.”

To make the process as easy as possible, YRMC will set up “pop-up shop” registration events around town. After registering, You are all set to get the vaccine at the civic center.

“We're encouraging all businesses, schools, groups, churches, get together, bring a friend and get vaccinated and do your part to help make sure that yuma is vaccinated.”

According to y-r-m-c, the number of second-dose missed appointments is significantly lower compared to first-dose missed appointments.

“So that's a very positive thing that's telling us that when patients get their first dose, they are more likely to come back for that second dose. However, if you are a patient who missed your second dose of women for whatever reason, please feel free to come on in as a walk in. Or you can log online and create a second appointment.”

The c-d-c's recommended window is between 21 to 42 days.
However, they still say to get it as soon as possible.

If you're still undecided, Yuma's mayor says to get informed or even speak to your primary care physician.

“I do believe people need to make that decision for themselves but what I ask is that they make a truly informed decision. Talk to your doctor talk to those people that are normally taking care of your health care.”

“there's a lot of information from a lot of different sources. In it we really need to have that personal, personal healthcare analysis.”

The hospital also announcing new hours to accommodate more people .

Starting Monday, April 26th, the civic center pod will be open from seven in the morning until 8 in the evening.
