Stolen car chase ends in officer-involved shooting near U.S.-Mexico border in San Diego

SAN DIEGO (NBC, KYMA) - A stolen car chase Wednesday night in Southern California ended with an officer-involved shooting near the U.S.-Mexico border in San Diego.

Officials said the chase began in Riverside County, and ranged south into San Diego.

The chase came to an end near the San Ysidro Port of Entry border crossing with a crash and officer-involved shooting.

The suspect was apprehended, but his condition is not yet known. An ambulance was called to the scene.

The California Highway Patrol had to shut down southbound I-5 and the San Ysidro Port of Entry during the incident and ensuing investigation, causing a massive traffic jam.

Drivers in the area were being warned to avoid the area and use alternate routes, including the Otay Mesa Port of Entry.
