Evacuation orders lifted as fire crews contain Norte Fire

ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - All evacuation orders have been lifted for the Norte Fire in south Orange County as crews make progress containing the 570-acre blaze.

Containment of the Norte Fire reached 60% Monday as hundreds of firefighters continued working to secure the area in San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano.

The fire broke out around 11:30 a.m. Friday near Portico Del Norte, according to the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA).

Fueled by fierce Santa Ana Winds, the flames rapidly spread to 250 acres within an hour, destroying or damaging seven homes.

As of Sunday morning, 467 firefighters remained assigned to the operation, strengthening containment lines and extinguishing hot spots.

Crews are expected to remain in the area for several days to prevent the fire from rekindling.

While all evacuation orders have now been lifted, firefighters continue working to bring the blaze under control.

While speaking with an NBC affiliate in Los Angeles, Capt. Steve Concialdi with OCFA said while two firefighters suffered minor injuries, "they have all been released from the hospital," and said no civilians were injured.
