Pumpkin growers compete in World Champion Pumpkin Weigh Off

HALF MOON BAY, Calif. (CBS, KYMA) - Pumpkin growers brought the biggest and best from their patches to compete in the World Championship Pumpkin Weigh Off.

Dozens of contestants showed off their supersized gourds at Monday's annual event near San Francisco, but a familiar face ended up taking the title.

Travis Geinger won the competition for the fifth time, with his pumpkin tipping the scales at 2,839 pounds.

Geinger drove 30 hours to haul the prized pumpkin from his patch in Minnesota.

"It was stressful, you know, you're white knuckling it and then going through Tahoe, you got all the trucker bumps, and yeah, it's an incredible journey," Geinger expressed.

In addition to bragging rights, Geinger pocketed more than $21,000 in prize money.

Geinger missed out last year because his pumpkin broke while growing.

Determined to make a comeback, Geinger appropriately nicknamed this giant gourd "Rocky" after the boxing underdog played by Sylvester Stallone.
