Six Flags to close X2 roller coaster following reported deaths

(CNN, KYMA) - After a CNN investigation revealed life-altering injuries and deaths linked to Six Flags' most famous roller coaster, the company announced Tuesday it will permanently close the ride.

The X2 at Magic Mountain in Southern California features a so-called fourth dimensional quality. It includes seats that rotate 360-degrees as the train reaches speeds of 80 miles an hour.

Six Flags Magic Mountain President Brian Oreding said it consistently passed a variety of safety tests, but is being closed because they believe it's the right thing to do.

The CNN investigation uncovered more than a dozen cases of injuries, hospitalizations and two deaths.

In July alone, two riders ended up in the same emergency room suffering brain injuries six days apart.

The ride was temporarily closed following the second woman's injury.
