Dirt bike rider arrested in Los Angeles following hour-long chase

LOS ANGELES (NBC, KYMA) - A dirt bike rider is in custody after leading Los Angeles police on a nearly hour-long pursuit that ended with an unusual hiding place in south Los Angeles.

The chase began shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday near Dodger Stadium, with aerial video capturing the rider weaving through traffic and traveling on the wrong side of the road.

At a gas station on Alameda Street, the rider attempted to refuel, but took off before finishing, leaving part of the pump hose attached.

The chase continued into the Green Meadows neighborhood, where the rider abandoned the bike and ran through several backyards.

Police said he eventually climbed into a blue recycling bin to hide. Officers found him there and took him into custody.

About six LAPD vehicles and a police helicopter were involved in the pursuit.

Authorities said the rider was possibly armed, and the investigation is ongoing..
