Southern California Edison equipment sparked Eaton Fire

(CNN, KYMA) - We now know what caused the deadly Eaton Fire in the Los Angeles area in January of last year.

A report from the L.A County Fire Department found Southern California Edison (SCE) equipment sparked the wildfire. Specifically, electrical arcing on an out-of-service tower.

The Eaton Fire killed 19 people, destroyed or damaged more than 9,000 homes and businesses, and 14,000 acres were burned.

A spokesperson for SCE said they have received the report and was reviewing it.

"We have taken our potential role in the start of this fire seriously from the very beginning," the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson also said SCE previously acknowledged "it was likely our equipment was associated with the ignition of the Eaton fire."
