Cal Poly constructs memorial honoring Kristin Smart

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - Cal Poly and the family of Kristin Smart announced a new memorial space.

They say Kristin Smart Grove is designed to be a "lasting tribute to Smart's life, legacy and bright spirit."

May marked 30 years since the Cal Poly freshman disappeared from campus.

Paul Flores is serving 25 years to life following his 2022 murder conviction, and Smart's remains have still not been found.

Construction of the on-campus memorial is expected to be completed by the end of the summer.
