One dead, six injured in shooting at a party in California

MORGAN HILL, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - According to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office, one person was killed and six others shot at an unsanctioned party in Morgan Hill, California Saturday night.

Officers responded to the scene at 10:16 p.m. following reports of intoxicated people in the roadway, some even throwing bottles at vehicles passing by.

As deputies arrived they heard gunshots and a chaotic scene immediately followed with more than 300 people trying to flee the area.

One person died on the scene and six others were shot and taken to the hospital with injuries ranging from minor to serious.

No arrests have been made but officers say they believe a handgun was used in the shooting and it seems to have been an isolated incident.

"This is senseless, this is not something we want to see in our community. This level of violence, but rest assured, our deputies and our detectives are committed to leaving no stone unturned and making sure that we find whoever did this and bring them to justice," said Brooks Joarosz, Senior Communications Officer with the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives are pursuing leads to identify the suspect or suspects involved in the shooting.
