Jury selected as Elon Musk and Sam Altman face-off in OpenAI trial

(NBC, KYMA) - The jury has been chosen and the trial to determine the future of artificial intelligence (AI) is getting underway.

Elon Musk is suing San Francisco-based OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman claiming they owe him $134 billion.

Musk and Altman started OpenAI together, but Musk claims when it restructured, OpenAI left him out, and therefore owes him money.

OpenAI counters that musk left the company of his own accord.

The two sides have been battling it out on social media ever since.

On Monday, while jury selection took the whole day inside, protesters gathered outside the federal courthouse in Oakland.

"Two of the CEOs are here fighting with each other rather than doing anything about the problems they're creating in the world, so everyone sucks here, whoever wins this trial, we all lose," said Valerie Sizemore with "Stop AI."

Opening statements are set for Tuesday morning.
