Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, ordered to pay $140,000 in Malibu mansion trial

LOS ANGELES (NBC, KYMA) - Rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, was ordered Wednesday to pay $140,000 as part of a lawsuit filed by a handyman over renovations at his Malibu mansion.

Jurors handed down a mixed verdict and also ordered Ye to pay attorney fees and court costs for the plaintiff, Tony Saxton who, in his suit, alleged that Ye agreed to pay him $20,000 per week in 2021 for the renovation project, but only turned over one $20,000 payment and $100,000 for construction costs.

The suit also claimed that ye unjustly fired Saxton after he injured his neck on the job.

"So I'm glad our client took the case all the way to trial. Let's not forget, the last offer that the defense made was for Tony to pay Ye money and for Tony to apologize publicly to Ye. And I'm proud that he stood his ground against one of the biggest celebrities in the world," said Neama Rahmani, Saxton's attorney.

When asked about the verdict, Rahmani said, "It's not disappointing for me. As far as we are concerned, the jurors didn't return verdicts on all the counts that we wanted and certainly not as much as we asked for. But, I do feel vindicated."

Attorneys for Ye have accused Saxton of lying, and say the rapper he paid the contractor $240,000 for his work.
