‘Ye,’ formerly known as Kanye West, testifies in trial over Malibu mansion renovation
LOS ANGELES (NBC, KYMA) - "Ye," formerly known as Kanye West, testified in a Los Angeles courtroom Friday regarding a civil lawsuit stemming from failed renovations to his Malibu mansion in 2021.
West is being sued by a contractor who alleges the rapper didn't properly pay for work done on his $57 million Malibu home.
Project manager and contractor Tony Saxon is seeking $1 million in damages from Ye. He also alleges that he was injured on the job site and wrongfully fired after raising safety concerns during the major renovation project.
Saxon claims ye promised to pay him $20,000 a week for the work along with $100,000 for materials, but was only paid one time.
Ye's attorneys say the rapper paid Saxon $240,000 for that work. He has since sold the property.
At one point during Ye's testimony, the plaintiff's attorney looked at the audience in the courtroom and asked, "Is he falling asleep?" as it appeared Ye was nodding off during questioning.
