LAUSD superintendent on paid leave following FBI raid

SAN PEDRO, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - The head of the country's second largest school district is on paid administrative leave following an FBI raid on his home and school district offices.

Alberto Carvalho has led the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) since 2022.

Friday's board of education vote to put him on leave was unanimous and effective immediately.

Authorities have not released details on the nature of their investigation.

Andres Chait, the Chief of School Operations for LAUSD, will take the helm while Carvalho is on leave.
