San Francisco community remembers Claude the Alligator

SAN FRANCISCO (NBC, KYMA) - In San Francisco, a beloved local icon was remembered over the weekend with a heartfelt farewell.

The California Academy of Sciences hosted a celebration of life Sunday for Claude, the albino alligator who captivated museum visitors for nearly two decades.

Claude lived at the academy for 17 years and died last month at the age of 30 after a battle with liver cancer.

The free community event featured a brass band parade and costume contest, drawing families and longtime fans eager to honor his legacy.

Known for his striking white scales and calm demeanor, Claude became a favorite among visitors from around the world.

City leaders have also approved plans to commemorate him by renaming a street in Golden Gate Park, ensuring the beloved alligator's memory lives on.
