California man’s sign on fence sparks controversy

ENCINITAS, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - A sign calling on neighbors to support each other is causing controversy in one California city.

When JT Moring heard of ICE raids in his community, he wanted to do something to bring people together.

He put up this sign in September, using leftover pieces of picket fence, but last Wednesday, the City of Encinitas Code Enforcement officials stopped by to tell him the sign had to come down.

They said it's non-conforming and violates city code and he has until Tuesday to take it down or face fines.

Encinitas Mayor Bruce Ehlers says he supports free speech and will work for the correct legal answer.
