San Francisco residents gather for ‘People Over Billionaires’ protest
SAN FRANCISCO (NBC, KYMA) - People in San Francisco took part in a protest march Saturday in a wealthy area of the city.
It was all part of what was called a "People Over Billionaires" day of action.
About 200 protesters took part in the march held in the city's Pacific Heights neighborhood.
The group, consisting of members of labor and community organizations, denounced corporate tax breaks and immigration crackdown.
The demonstrators, many dressed in colorful costumes and holding signs, called for a "People First" agenda.
This includes taxing the rich, addressing the affordability crisis, protecting immigrant and worker rights, combating climate change and building unity across diverse communities.
"We are out here today because people are really tired of billionaires first agenda. and they want to make sure our community stays whole," said one protester. "That our communities are funded in the way that need to, and that we as a people are supported in the work that we do every single day, right? The billionaires are the ones hoarding all this wealth while we are the ones that are actually creating the wealth."
