MISSING PERSON: Melodee Buzzard
(KYMA) - The FBI Los Angeles Field Office is working with state law enforcement, as well as asking for the public's help, in finding a missing California girl.
According to the FBI, law enforcement officials tried to contact nine-year-old Melodee Buzzard and her mother, Ashlee, at their home in Lompoc, California after a school administrator reported Buzzard had a "prolonged absence from school" on October 14.
It was determined that Ashlee left the state with her daughter in a white 2024 Chevrolet Malibu, with the license plate number reading 9MNG101, a week earlier, the FBI said.
However, the FBI said the vehicle was a rental car and was "no longer in Ashlee's possession," and said Buzzard was last seen on October 9 "along the return route via video surveillance" in the region between the Colorado-Utah border.
The FBI said the Malibu was believed to have traveled through Green River, Utah, Panguitch, Utah, Northwest Arizona, Primm, Nevada, and Rancho Cucamonga, California.
Buzzard is described by the FBI brown, curly hair, brown eyes, weighing 60 to 100 pounds, and is between four-feet and four feet, six inches.
However, the FBI said Buzzard's appearance "may have changed" and said, "She may be wearing wigs and her hair may appear darker and straighter than her natural hair."
If anyone has seen Buzzard, or came into contact with her mother since October 7, contact the Santa Barbara Sheriff's Criminal Investigations Division at (805) 681-4150, contact the sheriff's office's tip line at (805) 681-4171 to remain anonymous, or visit their website to submit an anonymous tip.
