Former student arrested after stabbing three staff members at a California school

TORRANCE, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - A former student was arrested in the alleged stabbing of three staff members and attempted to stab a fourth person Monday morning at a private learning center in Torrance, California.

Police say the stabbing happened just after 8:00 a.m. Pacific at Switzer Learning Center, with the suspect fleeing the scene.

Two of the victims were taken to the hospital and are currently receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

A third victim was treated on the scene by Torrance Fire Department.

The suspect was later taken into custody by the Torrance Police Department without incident.

During the apprehension, the suspect made statements indicating that he had placed two pipe bombs in the vicinity.

The L.A. County Bomb Squad was deployed for a possible arson-explosives investigation.

The non-public school and behavioral health center offers elementary, middle and high school programs for children and young adults with special needs.

An investigation is ongoing.
