State of California celebrates 175th birthday
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - The State of California celebrated its 175th birthday the only way California can: With a party.
Organizers closed off streets around the Capitol Tuesday night to wish the Golden State many more.
"My sisters are like, 'Move back, move back.' And I'm like, 'Have you been to California? Yes you have. You know I'm not gonna leave,'" said one California resident.
Whether you moved to or were born in the California, the Golden State's 175th birthday celebration brought large crowds to the State Capitol Tuesday, and the DJ knew what to play, creating a dance party in front of the Capitol.
"I got a whole playlist of California songs prepared for [the day]," the DJ said.
There was a variety of activities during the celebration, with the California State Railroad Museum Foundation hosting trivia games where they asked attendees questions like, "Who created the practical route across the Sierra Nevada mountains that enabled the Transcontinental railroad?"
The celebration ended with a laser show down the Capitol Mall and featured 31 Laser Space Cannons to honor California becoming the 31st state back in 1850.
"I just love living here where there's everything and everybody," the California resident expressed.
According to California State Parks, Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park is hosting a "fun-filled celebration" Saturday, September 13 in honor of the powerhouse's 130th anniversary.
