Firefighters in California continue battling the Pickett Fire

NAPA COUNTY, Calif. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - Firefighters in California are racing to contain the Pickett Fire as the blaze threatens Napa vineyards.

Cal Fire's Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit and other agencies have now deployed more than 1,000 emergency personnel to the scene.

Hand crews, dozers, engines, water tenders and helicopters are putting in an aggressive effort to suppress the blaze.

The blaze has grown to more than 6,800 acres. The fire has burned in the relatively remote hills of Napa County.

Several nearby vineyards are reportedly threatened by the growing blaze.
