Lifeguards in San Diego County rescue swimmer from dangerous rip current
SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - Lifeguards in San Diego County recently rescued a swimmer who was caught in a dangerous rip current at Torrey Pines State Beach.
The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said lifeguards at Torrey Pines State Beach worked together from the shore and from the water to save the swimmer.
The department said that two lifeguards drove down the beach with lights and sirens to the shore near the swimmer. One of those lifeguards, Phillip Goldman, immediately ran into the water with a rescue board.
"His timing was critical – reaching the exhausted swimmer just as he began to lose strength," the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said.
Soon after Goldman arrived to the swimmer with the board, a lifeguard on a rescue watercraft also arrived to help.
The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department posted footage of the dramatic rescue on Facebook Tuesday.
