LOS ANGELES (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - Police in Los Angeles are searching for the person who allegedly shot the driver who rammed his car into a crowd outside a popular nightclub.
The alleged driver, identified by police as Fernando Ramirez, was pulled from his car and attacked after officials say he intentionally drove his car into a crowd of people outside the Vermont Hollywood nightclub early Saturday morning.
At least 36 people were hurt.
One man allegedly then shot the 29-year-old in the lower back before fleeing the scene on foot.
"It really does complicate the situation because now we have a suspect that committed a terrible act and now he's become a victim because someone else decided to shoot him," said Captain Ben Fernandes with the LAPD.
Police tell CBS News Ramirez was kicked out of the club less than 10 minutes before the crash.
He was ultimately arrested, hospitalized to remove the bullet, and charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
