Menendez brothers’ parole hearing postponed

(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - A June parole hearing for Erik and Lyle Menendez has been postponed by more than two months.

On Monday, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation announced the parole hearing dates have been pushed back to August 21 and August 22.

The brothers were initially sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 1989 murders of their parents.

However, after a judge ruled in favor of the brothers receiving a shorter sentence last week, state officials converted their clemency proceedings on June 13 to parole consideration hearings.

Despite serving less than the minimum 50 years, California's youth offender law granted them eligibility, since they killed their parents before they turned 26-years-old.

The Menendez brothers have spent more than three decades in prison.
