Snow storm hits Southern California mountain communities

WRIGHTWOOD, Calif. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - A snow storm hit the San Bernardino Mountains in Southern California.

The storm has already dumped more than a foot of snow on some mountain communties.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter storm warning through Saturday.

While the fresh powder attracts skiers and snowboarders, the problem is getting up the mountain, and authorities require chains on all two-wheel drive vehicles.

"Well, it's beautiful fresh powder it looks like up ahead. We're just debating whether to keep going up or not. Chains are required. I was hoping that would be lifted by the time that we got here maybe. We only saw chains required on the way here. So, our chains are too small. We should have practiced at home like they advise you to. So, here we are sort of debating whether to go up or not," said one California driver.

"Yeah, it's a bigger vehicle. Just myself, so I'd rather be safe than sorry," said another California driver.
