California man’s dead body found in drum barrel
MALIBU, Calif. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - A homicide investigation is underway after a lifeguard found a man's body inside a barrel at Malibu Lagoon State Beach.
The 55 gallon drum was first observed at the lagoon on Sunday afternoon. Sanitation workers spotted it in the water and brought it to the shore. High tide rolled in and carried the drum back out into the water.
On Monday, a lifeguard spotted it floating, swam out and brought it back to shore. The lifeguard opened the barrel and discovered a male body inside.
The body was removed from the barrel early Monday evening.
It is not clear how long the barrel was there or what the cause of death is of the person inside.
