California family search for their missing pet, a 15-foot python

CHATSWORTH, Calif. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - A family in Southern California is searching for a missing pet: A 15-foot python named Big Momma.

The snake, measuring eight inches in diameter, slipped her cage on the Fourth of July and has been missing ever since.

Owner Alex Villalta says Big Momma's last meal was a rabbit about a week ago, so she's probably not hungry. Yet.

Villalta, who says his young son is devastated, is asking anyone who sees the snake to report it.

"Just notify a local shelter, call 911, call us, call the news...call someone, but just don't harm the snake. It's a family pet," Villalta pleaded.
