LANCASTER, Calif. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department (LACSD) has opened an investigation after a woman was slammed to the ground at a Lancaster grocery store.

Video of the confrontation is now part of a departmental use of force investigation.

Witness and officer body-camera video captured the encounter on June 24. Deputies from the Lancaster Sheriff's Station responded to a 911 report of a robbery at a WinCo store.

The deputies approached a man and woman in the parking lot who matched a description provided by store security. As deputies tried to detain the man and woman, "the encounter escalated into a use of force," according to the sheriff's department.

One witness described the encounter as "intense" and "scary."

Both deputies were re-assigned from field duty, pending further administrative review, according to the sheriff's department.
