Princess Leia gown on auction block for $2 million

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - It comes from a galaxy far, far, away by way of discovery in a London attic and could be yours for a cool $2 million.

The iconic white ceremonial dress Carrie Fisher wore as Princess Leia in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope is on the auction block in Los Angeles Wednesday.

The dress, which a movie crewmember rescued, but left crumpled in his attic for decades, is among 1,400 original props and costumes from film and television shows up for grabs. The gown is expected to fetch as much as $2 million.

"When Star Wars fans see this dress, they just respond, their eyes light up. They immediately recognize it, they remember the scene, they remember the throne room at the end of the film, they remember the fantastic John Williams score that transports them back there and that's what collecting this material is all about," said Brandon Alinger, Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Propstore.

It took ten months to restore the costume. Bidding starts at $500,000.

Other items being sold include the evil clown doll from the 1982 horror film "Poltergeist" and the Batpod vehicle Christian Bale drove in "The Dark Knight" and "The Dark Knight Rises."

Film buffs can bid or watch the live auction online here.
