LA Dodgers release Trevor Bauer after reinstatement
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - The Los Angeles Dodgers announced plans to cut ties with baseball player Trevor Bauer on Friday.
The Dodgers had until Friday to restore Bauer to the roster under baseball's rules.
Furthermore, the team reinstated Bauer last month after receiving an unprecedented two-season suspension without pay.
Earlier last year, Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred gave the 31-year-old Los Angeles Dodgers star the suspension on April 29. The suspension was for violating the league's domestic violence and sexual assault policy.
A San Diego woman said Bauer beat and sexually abused her last year, an accusation the pitcher denied.
The Dodgers' recent decision to release Bauer leaves the organization responsible for the roughly $22.6 million owed to him.
With a league minimum of $720,000, Bauer is now free to sign with any team.
Fifteen players were previously disciplined under this same policy. The longest suspension was a full season and post-season for free agent pitcher Sam Dyson in 2021.
