Woman shot and killed by ICE agent in Minneapolis

UPDATE: President Trump released the following statement on Truth Social:

I have just viewed the clip of the vent which took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is a horrible thing to watch. The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self defense. Based on the attached clip, it is hard to believe he is alive, but is now recovering in the hospital. The situation is being studied, in its entirety, but the reason these incidents are happening is because the Radical Left is threatening, assaulting, and targeting our Law Enforcement Officers and ICE Agents on a daily basis. They are just trying to do the job of MAKING AMERICA SAFE. We need to stand by and protect our Law Enforcement Officers from this Radical Left Movement of Violence and Hate!

EDITOR'S NOTE: There were profanities used during the press conference in Minneapolis. Viewer discretion is advised.

UPDATE (1:43 PM): Homeland Security Kristi Noem and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey each commented on the shooting in Minneapolis.

While in Brownsville, Texas, Secretary Noem called the shooting "an act of domestic terrorism," saying the ICE agent was acting in self-defense.

"What happened was our ICE officers were out in enforcement action. They got stuck in the snow because of the adverse weather that is in Minneapolis, they were attempting to push out their vehicle, and a woman attacked them and those surrounding them and attempted to run them over and ram them with her vehicle. An officer of ours acted quickly and defensively shot to protect himself and the people around him, and my understanding is, is that she was hit and is deceased.

We're continuing to gather more information, but this goes to show the assaults that our ICE officers and our law enforcement are under every single day. These vehicle rammings are domestic acts of terrorism. We're working with the Department of Justice to prosecute them. As such, we will continue to protect our ICE officers and in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies as well.

You've seen me in the last couple of days deploy over 2,000 more officers to the Minneapolis area, and in the last two days, we've arrested hundreds and hundreds of dangerous criminals, not just fraudsters who stole from the American people billions of dollars and put it in their pockets and enriched their friends from overseas and themselves, but also individuals who committed acts of murder and rape and trafficking and drug exploitation and child exploitation."

In Minneapolis, Mayor Frey, during a press conference, told ICE to leave the city, and said, in strongly worded remarks, video of the encounter does not appear to show the woman weaponizing her vehicle against agents.

"We collectively are going to do everything possible to get to the bottom of this, to get justice and to make sure that there is an investigation that is conducted in full, but what we do know is that a 37-year-old woman is dead and that she was shot by ICE. We have dreaded this moment since the early stages of this ICE presence in Minneapolis.

They are not here to cause safety in this city. What they are doing is not to provide safety in America. What they are doing is causing chaos and distrust. They're ripping families apart. They're sowing chaos on our streets, and, in this case, quite literally killing people."

They are already trying to spin this as an action of self defense. Having seen the video myself, I want to tell everybody directly that it's [not true]. This was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying, getting killed.

To ICE: [Get out] of Minneapolis. We do not want you here. Your stated reason for being in this city is to create some kind of safety, and you are doing exactly the opposite.

Look, we all know that the agenda of this Trump Administration is to create chaos. Let us respond right now with our best versions of self. This is a moment where all of us in Minneapolis and beyond, we can rise to the occasion."

Jacob Frey, Mayor of Minneapolis

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara, who was also at the press conference, called for peace saying, "We understand people are going to be upset about what happened, and people are going to want to exercise their First Amendment rights, but please do so safely and lawfully to ensure that we do not have any further tragedy in this city or destruction."

The shooting unfolded after a group of people began blocking agents during an immigration-related operation.

MINNEAPOLIS (NBC, KYMA) - A woman was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Minneapolis Wednesday, and tensions are running high in the area of the shooting.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials have confirmed the shooting saying, in a press release, it was "vehicle-ramming related," and said the fatal shots were fired as a defensive measure.

The release did not say whether the 37-year-old woman was a target for arrest by the agents.

A bullet hole could be seen in the windshield of a wrecked car at the scene.

This all unfolded after the DHS sent more than 2,000 ICE agents to the Twin Cities in what it calls "the largest DHS operation ever."

Hundreds of ICE agents, Minnesota police officers and neighbors flocked to the scene of this tragic shooting.

Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minn.) has urged citizens to remain calm as the investigation into the shooting continues.

One woman at the scene, who goes by Kassy S., says she heard the gunshots followed by a loud crash, and that's when she saw the woman's body lying on the street beside her vehicle.

"I was leaving this morning to go get groceries. As I was leaving I heard honking, and a lot of honking and a lot of yelling. I live on the other side of this alleyway over her, so I ran down the alley. As soon as I got to the end of the alley, I heard two gunshots and a car crash, a really hard car crash. And I heard yelling.

As I'm driving by, it was a red truck and nothing but the air bags...and air bags full of blood and there was a body on the street. It was a woman. They shot a mother, shot a mother this morning trying to flee from ICE agents. That's what happened. That's what I can tell you what I saw."

The identity of the victim has not been released, and an investigation into the shooting is underway.
