Condition of Guardsmen unclear after shooting

UPDATE (2:12 PM): West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey has posted an update to social media saying, "We are now receiving conflicting reports about the condition of our two Guard members."

The governor said he will provide "additional updates once we receive more complete information."

"Our prayers are with these brave service members, their families, and the entire Guard community," Gov. Morrisey said.

UPDATE (1:53 PM): The two National Guardsmen have died, according to a social media post by Gov. Patrick Morrisey (R-WV).

Gov. Morrisey said both Guardsmen were from West Virginia, and said the state is in "ongoing contact with federal officials as the investigation continues."

"Our entire state grieves with their families, their loved ones, and the Guard community. West Virginia will never forget their service or their sacrifice, and we will demand full accountability for this horrific act," the governor said in the post.

The FBI is also assisting with the investigation, Director Kash Patel said in a post to social media.

WASHINGTON (NBC, KYMA) - Two National Guardsmen have been shot in downtown Washington, D.C. Wednesday.

Details are limited at this time, but it happened several blocks from the White House, and at least one person was taken to the hospital via MedEvac helicopter.

D.C. Police say the area is secure and at least one suspect has been taken into custody.

The White House says it's aware and are actively monitoring the situation. President Donald Trump has also been notified, and posted to social media saying both Guardsmen were "critically wounded."

"These are truly Great People. I, as President of the United States, and everyone associated with the Office of the Presidency, am with you," President Trump added in the post.
