Latest on the San Pasqual school lockdown
WINTERHAVEN, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Imperial County Sheriff's Office (ICSO) has provided an update regarding the San Pasqual school lockdown from last Friday.
According to ICSO, deputies at the Winterhaven station reponded to a report of a potential firearm being at the elementary school.
ICSO says the school's staff "received reports claiming that an elementary aged student may have been in possession of a firearm in their backpack," but while there was no threat, the school went on lockdown as a "precautionary measure until the situation was deemed safe."
Following this, school officials sent out notifications to parents informing them of the lockdown, according to ICSO.
ICSO says deputies found a student with a photo on their cellphone of another student holding a firearm.
At the same time, deputies, officers with the Quechan Police Department, and a K9 unit with Custom and Border Protection searched the school, but did not find any firearms, resulting in the lockdown being lifted.
Students were then "safely released to their parents, guardians, or designated rides," ICSO says.
During the investigation, ICSO says one person was arrested and booked into the Imperial County Jail for child endangerment.
The investigation remains ongoing, and if anyone has any information regarding the case, call ICSO's Investigation Division at (442) 265-2045.
