DHS: Immigration detention centers are at capacity

(KYMA, KECY) - The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has given an update on ICE arrests since Donald Trump became president.

DHS says immigration detention centers are at capacity with about 47,600 people.

Some people have been released due to medical or humanitarian issues through ICE's Alternatives to Detention program.

DHS confirms ICE has arrested 32,809 people from January 20 to March 10, 2025.

DHS shares more data regarding those who were arrested:

  • 14,111 were convinced criminals 
  • 9,980 have pending criminal charges 
  • 8,718 only have immigration-related violations
