More than 60 campers are stranded in Arizona’s Oak Creek Canyon

OAK CREEK CANYON, Ariz. (NBC, KYMA) - Dozens of campers are wondering when they'll get home after being stranded in an Arizona campground.

About 65 people are stuck on the wrong side of the river in Oak Creek Canyon.

Their campground became isolated after weekend storms raised water levels over the only crossing.

A reporter from NBC affiliate in Phoenix spoke to one camper, Tanja Hooper, by phone from across the torrent.

"We were packing up Monday morning and Cameron the camp, one of the camp workers here rushed over and said don't take down your tent. You can't leave and she showed us the pictures of the bridge," Hooper shared. "But I know other people were also kind of running low on food so I'm really thankful they dropped off those MREs and that we know we're not just stranded here. That they're really trying to do whatever it takes to help us and to get us out of here."

Officials continue to monitor conditions, but have not announced when it will be safe for campers to cross.
