BLM sells off wild burros in Arizona for $125

FLORNECE, Ariz. (NBC, KYMA) - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) sold off wild burros Friday in Florence, Arizona for just $125 each.

People who have burros say they make great companions for other farm animals, and can alert herds to predators, but some have found more unusual jobs for the animals.

BLM said adopting out burros protects land and vegetation during drought.

It's also a matter of public safety. When burros can't find food or water, they wander into communities, putting drivers at risk.

On Tuesday, BLM will auction off burros which have been trained by prisoners, the auction price of those animals begins at $500.
