Parents of Arizona kid found alive in morgue won’t be charged

GILBERT, Ariz. (CNN, KYMA) - Prosecutors will not file charges against the Arizona parents of a toddler who nearly drowned and was later found alive in a hospital morgue.

The Maricopa County Attorney's Office said there is no reasonable likelihood of conviction for child abuse.

Police say the 18-month-old boy was found face down in a pool during a Super Bowl party in February and declared dead at a hospital.

Five hours later, staff discovered he was still breathing after he had been taken to the morgue.

The boy is out of the hospital now, though the family's attorney said he will need lifelong medical care.

The doctor who mistakenly pronounced the boy dead is not facing criminal charges. However, he could face civil action.
