Police in Arizona shoot and kill man armed with shotgun

CHANDLER, Ariz. (NBC, KYMA) - In Chandler, Arizona, police shot and killed a man who was armed with a shotgun over the weekend.

Officers were initially called to the scene for a domestic disturbance.

"We received calls from the person involved and we received calls from neighbors," said Marysol Green with the Chandler Police Department (CPD).

CPD won't say what was going on, just that it was what they called a domestic situation at about 10 a.m. Saturday.

When they got there, they found that situation.

"The first officer on scene saw a man with a shotgun in the front yard of the reported address. He also saw a female sitting in a nearby vehicle. Multiple commands were given to drop the shotgun," Green shared.

CPD say that's when officer shot the man.

"At first, I actually thought it was fireworks. After one or two hours I went out, I see all this police here," said one Chandler resident.

The Chandler Fire Department performed CPR, but police say the man was dead.

"It's creepy, especially since I saw them doing CPR on him," said Erica, who lives a few houses down where the shooting happened.

She put out water for the officers who she suddenly found outside her door.

"I came out to get the mail just after 10:30 and came outside and everything was roped off. We had a guy replacing the hot water heater at the time. And he said he heard a couple of pops. He didn't know what it was, like two or three," Erica detailed.

Erica says she didn't hear anything. Not this time anyway.

"I called non-emergent a month or two ago. There was a car in front of their house and there's a whole bunch of people just standing out there yelling," Erica expressed.

Police wouldn't say anything about any past calls. They wouldn't even say what the man was doing when they got there or if he made any threats to officers.

Chandler PD says that's part of the investigation.
