Hiker dies after falling ‘significant distance’ at South Mountain in Arizona

PHOENIX (NBC, KYMA) - A hiker has died after falling a "significant distance" at South Mountain in Arizona Friday.

Phoenix firefighters were dispatched to the Mormon Trail Friday afternoon at about 1 p.m.

There were reports of an injured hiker who fell and the fire department said the man appeared to be in "extremely critical condition."

First responders used a helicopter to hoist the man off the mountain to take him to the hospital.

The Phoenix Police Department later said the man died from his injured.

Investigators say there were no other reported injuries and foul play did not seem to be a factor in the incident.
