Arizona man in critical condition after being stung by bees

PHOENIX (CNN, KYMA) - A hiker is in critical condition after a swarm of bees attacked on Lookout Mountain in North Phoenix Saturday morning.

The Phoenix Fire Department (PFD) says crews were called after reports multiple people had been stung.

One man in his 30's was hit the hardest, with firefighters saying he was stung dozens of times, and he told rescuers it was more than 100.

Firefighters hiked up the trail and found him about three-quarters of the way up the mountain.

They say he was alert and talking, but his blood pressure was dangerously low.

Crews treated him on scene with medication and IV fluids, and then the Phoenix Firebird helicopter flew him off the mountain.

"We are going on more bee assignments obviously in a situation like this where it was a technical rescue, mountain rescue, and bee assignment. These don't happen too often, but our crews around the valley are going on bee assignments," said Capt. Todd Keller with PFD.

Officials say his blood pressure was stabilized, but he was taken to the hospital and remains in critical condition.
