Phoenix Zoo gives monkey stuffed animal inspired by Punch

PHOENIX (CBS, KYMA) - Inspired by Punch, the viral monkey who captured hearts with his stuffed toy, Phoenix Zoo gave a young siamang his own orangutan doll.

Footage shared by the zoo shows the ape approaching the toy cautiously before eagerly cuddling it.

"While Bodie, the 4-year-old siamang, doesn't need a stand-in companion (since he has a tight-knit family with mom, dad, and a little brother), our team wanted to give him one for enrichment," Phoenix Zoo wrote on social media.

Ichikawa Zoo in Japan said Punch by his mother shortly after birth, and was given the stuffed animal as a "surrogate mother" for comfort.
