Church in Tucson prays for Nancy Guthrie’s return

TUCSON, Ariz. (NBC, KYMA) - A Tucson church led its Sunday morning service in prayer for Nancy Guthrie who is still missing.

A Sunday morning service began with a prayer at the same church Guthrie, 84, was supposed to attend a week ago.

"We pray for Nancy's rescue and her release. Bring her home safely," said the pastor. "Gather now and pray for protection over Nancy right now in this moment."

She never made it, and her absence is what sparked a search which is still ongoing.

"It's heartbreaking and I pray she's okay," said Rosie Kedney, a Tucson resident.

Investigators suspect Guthrie was taken against her will from her Catalina Foothills home around 2:00 a.m. last Sunday.

Her blood was found on her porch and security cameras were disabled leaving no video evidence of what happened.

Guthrie's children, "Today Show" host Savannah Guthrie, along with Annie and Camron, are now telling their mother's possible abductor they're willing to pay for her release.

The FBI and Pima County Sheriff's Department (PCSD) has not fully legitimized a potential ransom letter and follow up note sent to KOLD-TV, a news station in Tucson.

The letter reportedly demanded millions of dollars in Bitcoin and has a second deadline Monday.

PCSD says no suspect, person of interest or vehicle has been identified in connection to the case.

Investigators spent Sunday conducting follow-up at multiple locations, including at Guthrie's home, where two people were seen searching the back of her property.

Late Saturday, investigators were seen taking pictures inside her daughter Annie's home. They left carrying a paper bag and evidence case.

"It hit home. I have an 84-year-old mom. What if it would have happened to her?" Kedney expressed.

As the search for Guthrie keeps taking twists and turns, neighbors say they haven't stopped praying for her safe return.

"I don't know what they want but yeah we need her home safe," Kedney remarked. "I still feel she's here somewhere, I'm shaking because I believe she's here with us and I just pray that they find her and she comes home."
