Missing Navajo girl found dead in northern Arizona

KYMA

COAL MINE, Ariz. (CNN, KYMA) - The FBI says an eight-year-old girl who disappeared from a Navajo Nation community in northern Arizona was found dead Friday.

Maleeka Boone, who goes by "Mollie," was last seen playing in the Coal Mine Navajo Housing Authority area Thursday.

A Turquoise Alert, issued for a person gone missing due to unknown circumstances, was issued early Friday morning.

The search included tribal law enforcement agencies, the U.S. Marshals service, the FBI and others.

There's no word on exactly where she was found, the cause of death or whether foul play is suspected.

The FBI is leading the death investigation and set up a command station in the area, and residents of the community are asked to stay in their homes during the investigation.
