Officials search for Arizona man whose truck was swept away by floodwaters
MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. (NBC, KYMA) - Officials in Arizona are still searching for a man whose truck was swept away by floodwaters Sunday.
Authorities say Vince Upton attempted to cross a flooded wash in Rainbow Valley when he was swept downstream.
Upton's truck has been located, but he remains missing.
Volunteers and first responders have been searching for Upton on land and in the air, but so far, they have not had any luck.
According to NBC affiliate KPNX, Upton called his wife around 3:30 a.m. to tell her that he was being swept away and he was stuck in the wash. He apparently told her, "I love you," and his phone died.
His wife and numerous community members immediately began searching to no avail.
A neighbor who found Upton's truck talked about the search for the missing man.
"Me and my husband and another friend from across found the truck, but prior to that downstream, we found his construction vest, and then his shirt, and then the hood was farther down, but we found the truck and you could tell that he kicked it out from the inside. So, he did get out. It's just...we don't know how high the water was, but he's definitely on this side, and it's a possibility that it's down in the Gila."
