Arizona Governor Hobbs declares state of emergency after Greer Fire burns over 15,000 acres
GREER, Ariz. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - Fire crews are currently fighting the Greer Fire in Arizona, which has burned over 15,000 acres and is 0% contained.
On Saturday, Governor Katie Hobbs (D-Ariz.) declared a state of emergency, making state resources and funding available to support local wildfire response and recovery efforts.
Governor Hobbs has directed $200,000 from her emergency fund for the response.
On Friday, firefighters made significant progress stopping the flames from jumping onto Highway 260 northwest of Eagar.
Now, their focus turns to the fire lines around the 261, which runs directly into the evacuated communities.
More than 519 personnel were assigned to help fight the blaze.
