Yuma local beats voter registration deadline

The deadline to register is October 11 at 11:59 p.m.

YUMA, Ariz. (KECY, KYMA) - October 11 is the last day to register to vote in the midterm general election for Arizonans.

The Yuma County Recorder's office says they see a lot of voters come on the last day to get registered.

One of those voters who registered on the last day is Yuma resident Michael Hanson.

Who says he participates in every election.

“I registered to vote because I sold my house in May. So I got deleted from the registration process. So I’m re-registering with my new address," Hanson said.

Locals had the opportunity to register at the County Recorder’s office or mail in their registration, but also can register at Service Arizona.

Early voting begins tomorrow but voters will probably not have their ballots for another couple of days.

“Early ballots will be mailed out tomorrow, Thursday, and Friday. If you’re just now updating your information they likely will not go out until the 19th,” Sarah Howard, Yuma County Voter Registration Coordinator stated.

It’s a very busy time for Howard and her staff, as she says most Yuma voters don’t cast their ballot in person or in drop boxes.

“About 70 percent of our voters are vote-by-mail voters,” Howard said.

California voters need to be registered 15 days before election day to vote, meaning they have until October 24.
