One dead after crashing into canal east of Yuma

Next of kin notified after death in canal

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma County Sheriff's Office says they received reports of a vehicle in a canal on Tuesday morning.

At about 5:51 a.m., the Sheriff's office was told about a Dodge Durango near Avenue 19 1/2 E and County 7 1/2 Street.

The car was driving north on a farm road and lost control then slid into a canal.

Bystanders rescued the driver but 35-year-old Edith Garcia was later pronounced dead on scene.

The case is under investigation but alcohol does not seem to be a factor.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office at 928-783-4427 or 78-CRIME to remain anonymous.
