Ducey lists Yuma among cities affected by riots - local law enforcement reports no problems

PHOENIX, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma was a topic of conversation during Arizona Governor Doug Ducey's Thursday afternoon update on coronavirus and civil unrest.

Governor Ducey said the state is working to increase testing in Yuma County as cases here continue to rise. The county saw an increase of 123 cases today alone, bringing the countywide total to 1,643. Ducey said the state is keeping a close eye on the border as cases surge is Mexico as well.

The Governor also addressed the rioting and looting that coincided with last weekend protests against George Floyd's death. He says the violent incidents led him to institute an 8 p.m. curfew. That curfew expires Monday.

Ducey included Yuma in the list of cities affected by the rioting. That statement stands in stark contrast to reports from local law enforcement. Neither the Yuma County Sheriff's Office, nor the Yuma Police Department report any problems at all. Both agencies say their officers and deputies saw nothing but peaceful protests.
